Studying Foundation Degree in Business & Management
I am in my mid-thirties and run my own business. The current economic climate made me take a look at how my business operated and where I saw it going over the next few years. I was well aware that that it was very likely that I would see a downturn in business and wanted to use that time both constructively and productively. After a break from formal studying of over ten years I started investigating what was available and relevant to both myself personally, but also what could benefit my business. The Business Studies course by KOL fitted my criteria and I also felt that it complements my existing AAT qualification.
The flexibility of the learning structure works perfectly for my personal circumstances, allowing me the freedom to study when I choose. What you want to say about University of Essex Online: Having been out of formal education for such a long time, it took a while to readjust and understand what was expected of me. KOL have provided an excellent support structure from the start, with a good introduction to get you back into the correct mindset. The Student Liaison Team are efficient and helpful and the tutors are supportive and encouraging. There is an excellent structure for feedback and lots of opportunity to discuss any issues or concerns with the tutor or liaison team. Any fears I had about remote studying were unnecessary.
The on-line platform is a wealth of information, with back up technical assistance available if required.
Regular seminars provide interaction with other students and the tutor, although all is not lost if you cannot attend, as the sessions are downloadable to listen to at a more convenient time. Core text manuals are also provided, which are useful for reference and guidance. The twelve week cycle for each module keeps you focussed and maintains interest. Remote studying does require a good discipline and may not suit everyone, but for me it fits well with my work and personal life.
