20 scholarships will cover the cost of all course fees
London, UK, 1 October, 2007 – Kaplan Open Learning, a UK college and part of global education and training provider Kaplan, Inc., has launched a scholarship programme that will cover the cost of its online Foundation degree course in business.
Twenty scholarships, available to successful applicants throughout the UK, will cover the cost of the entire Foundation degree programme, which is normally £2,400. Essential text books will be included.
Applicants must be over the age of 18; be an EU citizen and have been resident in the UK for at least the last three years; have an ´O´ level, GCSE or the equivalent in Maths and English; and be engaged in relevant paid or voluntary work. As part of the application process, a 250-word summary must be submitted before 2 November, 2007 highlighting the difference a degree could make to a student's life, specific motivations for undertaking the course, and career hopes and aspirations once the degree has been earned.
Alan Jenkins, Managing Director of Kaplan Open Learning and a former lecturer, said: "Our scholarship scheme is designed to help those who are committed to improving their lives through education, particularly those who, for whatever reason, may have missed out on studying for a degree when they left school.
´I remember inspirational students – often with difficult personal circumstances who, through their own drive and commitment, learned new skills, earned qualifications, gained recognition and changed their lives."
With multiple start dates throughout the year and a continuous 52-week academic calendar, Kaplan Open Learning students can study to gain a higher education qualification wherever and whenever they have access to the internet. There are currently four business Foundation Degree courses available: Business and Management; Entrepreneurship; Marketing and Sales Management and Internet Marketing.
Kaplan Open Learning is an affiliate college of the University of Essex and is designed to meet the needs of working adults. The courses involve scheduled online classes with live audio and chat rooms to encourage active discussion and interactive learning in real time. Students can contact their own dedicated academic adviser throughout their studies.
The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday 2nd November 2007. The application details and full terms and conditions are detailed on the website, www.kaplanopenlearning.org.uk
