Units
On joining the programme you will study the following core units:
- Understanding the Management Role:
Explore the nature and purpose of organisations, including missions, values, key stakeholders, functional areas and
managerial roles. The unit goes on to examine the specific responsibilities of middle managers, how they communicate
and how interpersonal relationships affect managerial performance in the workplace. Students will be able to evaluate
their own personal development opportunities in order to improve their managerial abilities.
- Leading Teams:
Analyses how the organisation manages its individuals to achieve
its stated goals and objectives, as well as explaining the importance of direction and values in creating effective
teams. Students will then explore the characteristics and behaviour associated with initiative, leadership, creativity and
innovation, and how to foster them.
- Managing Projects in the Organisation:
Develop your knowledge and understanding of managing projects as required by a practising or potential middle manager.
You will analyse the benefits of project management, exploring the terminology and characteristics used by a project
manager. In addition, students will have the opportunity to examine project processes and life cycles such as Prince 2,
as well as the methods involved in monitoring and evaluating project outcomes.
Progression to Certificate and Diploma
The ILM Level 5 qualification is nested to encourage progression. This means credits gained in the Award qualification
can be carried forward into the larger Certificate and then Diploma qualifications, enabling individuals to progress
their learning without repetition.
