Introduction

You will develop an understanding of the complex areas of terrorism, including its history and ideology. Issues such as counter terrorism, the role of the media and detention without charge will also be explored.

Module Description

This module aims to:

  1. Give students an understanding of the complex definition of terrorism
  2. Examine the historical background of the subject
  3. Identify and critically assess the ideology behind terrorism
  4. Enable students to consider and critically evaluate the consequences to the state of terrorist activity
  5. Raise awareness of the possible counter‐terrorism measures available to governments and critically evaluate the same
  6. Consider and critically assess the links between terrorism and crime
