Level 5: Work Based Learning

Introduction

This double module gives you the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained from your course to your workplace.

Module Description

This module aims to:

  • Provide the student with the opportunity to demonstrate their learning by undertaking an in-depth investigation of an issue arising from their occupational or professional activity within the financial services sector
  • Equip the student with the skills and confidence to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes with reference to their personal development and their ability to link theory and practice; and
  • Encourage the student to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes with reference to their organisational or professional context and use theory to inform practice

Module Content

Students are expected to choose a more demanding project than what they undertook for Work Based Learning 1. Further, they will be expected to work more independently and to make greater use of sources and references in completing the project than was the case in Work Based Learning 1.

The Project Proposal, to be agreed with the work based Mentor and the WBL2 tutor will be more comprehensive than the Learning Contract developed in Work Based Learning 1 firstly via the use of appropriate theoretical frameworks and secondly via a critical and contemporary understanding of the literature and theory within the chosen area. It is anticipated that students will usually retain the same work based Mentor they had for Work Based Learning 1 thus obviating the need to spend time at the outset of the module finding a Mentor. Support will be provided for those students who join us at level 4 or who have moved jobs to identify a suitable mentor.

Project topics will be related to the course themes and the student’s work place. The module is intended to be ‘student-centred’ and ‘student-managed’; however students will be supported in terms of the following elements:

  • Developing The Project Proposal
  • Working With Mentor/Managers
  • Completing The Learning Agreement
  • Conducting A Literature Review
  • Qualitative And Quantitative Methods
  • Writing The Reflective Log
  • Writing The Project Report
