Module Description

This module aims to:

1. The skills required for the development, preparation, investigation and presentation of their dissertation and other research projects
2. The opportunity to further develop independent learning skills and demonstrate their capacity for sustained individual effort and ability to analyse, synthesise and evaluate the data pertinent to the chosen research topic

• Producing a research proposal/plan
• Producing a project report

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate an appreciation of the nature of research, and of alternative approaches to it
• Critically evaluate and use the findings of existing research
• Investigate and consider data sources; analyse data; prepare and present a report
• Study independently using their own initiative and develop a structured approach to manage the outcome of a project
• Demonstrate technical competence in conducting an independent research project at the appropriate level
• Apply effectively their knowledge, skills and understanding to a variety of familiar and unfamiliar situations
• Display a depth of understanding of the subject researched and communicate ideas in a clear and coherent way
• Demonstrate their ability to analyse, evaluate and synthesise ideas and information
• Reflect on the practice of self directed working and learning
