Level 1: Legal Framework
Introduction
Learn about the legal system in England
and Wales, the roles and responsibilities
of those involved in the judicial process
such as Magistrates, Youth Courts, Crown
Court etc. and how those processes are
evolving. This module examines the roles
of those government departments involved
in creating legislation and deploying
accountability mechanisms.
Module Description
This module aims to:
- Outline the structure of the legal system in England and Wales
- Explain and evaluate the key differences between the criminal and civil legal processes
in England and Wales
- Identify the differences between statute and common law
- Ensure students understand the roles of those agencies which form part of the criminal
justice system and can recognise and evaluate how they complement each other
- Make students aware of how the criminal justice system protects the individual
