Module Description

This module aims to:

  1. Raise students’ awareness of the role and importance of multi‐agency activity within the sector
  2. Provide an outline of aspects of the criminal trial process
  3. Provide an outline of police powers and bail
  4. Develop an awareness of the vulnerability of witnesses
  5. Ensure students recognise the increasing involvement of the local community within the criminal justice arena
  6. Develop an awareness of the impact of social and economic policies on community safety

4. Review of the partnership provisions of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Understand the statutory responsibilities of crime and disorder partnerships
  • Recognise the changing face of criminal justice within England and Wales
  • Understand key aspects of the criminal trial process including appeals
  • Establish the effectiveness of the law and its processes when protecting witnesses
  • Outline the developing role of the community in identifying and supporting criminal justice issues
  • Identify and evaluate the alternative methods by which the local community can hold the Police to account
  • Understand key aspects of police powers and bail arrangements
