Level 1: Crime and the Impact of Crime
Introduction
Develop knowledge of criminal liability
and the key definitions associated with
criminality. Examine some of those key
areas of criminal and anti-social behaviour
which have a major impact on the
community. Consider the impact of
substance misuse, the ‘internalisation’
of crime and defences to criminal behaviour.
Module Description
This module aims to:
- Make students aware of criminal liability and the key definitions associated with
criminality
- Introduce students to a number of specific crimes and to several key defences to a
criminal offence
- Ensure that students understand the impact of drugs and anti‐social behaviour upon
criminal behaviour
- Enable students to understand the social and economic effects of criminal behaviour
upon communities and the state
- Identify and evaluate the impact of scientific and technological developments within
the criminal justice arena
- Raise awareness of the growing internationalisation of crime
