This module aims to:

• Equip students with an understanding of the different categories of prisoners
• Provide students with an overview of both policy developments and legislation related to prisoners
• Describe a range of approaches to the treatment of prisoners with regard to race and gender
• Clarify the roles of those who work inside prisons
