How to Apply for APL?

Step 1
Find the learning outcomes for the modules you have previously studied.

How to do this if you do not already have copies of your learning outcomes:

Contact the institution at which you did your prior certified learning and request copies
Use an internet search engine to look for the learning outcomes on the website of your previous institution

Step 2
Compare your prior learning outcomes with those of the modules on the University of Essex Online course of your choice which you can find here. If you believe that you have certificated learning equivalent to that required for relevant modules within the KOL course of your choice, you may proceed to Step 3.

Step 3
Provide us with proof of having completed your prior certified learning by sending us the following:

For Prior Certified Learning from Further/Higher Education institutions:
1. Copies of original transcript/s or record/s showing the modules or units completed and confirmation of the credit values and levels of the modules if relevant. This should be a formal transcript on headed paper or stamped and signed by the institution/organisation.

2. Evidence from previous institution/organisation to confirm that you have successfully completed the period of study on which the claim is based (e.g. certificate, although this may sometimes be evident on the transcript.)

3. Learning outcomes or syllabus information describing the academic content of the course at the time it was studied.

For Prior Certified Learning from Professional Qualifications:
1. Evidence from professional institutes previous institution/organisation to confirm that you have successfully completed the period of study on which the claim is based.

Please note: If your prior learning was undertaken more than 5 years ago, you must also provide an up to date CV in order to evidence that you have kept your learning current.
