Academic Adviser - Online Foundation Degrees

Central Leeds

The primary objective of the role is to provide first line contact for students and their employers throughout their online degree studies. To succeed you need a friendly yet persuasive manner with excellent organisational skills.

The successful candidate will meet the following key job requirements:

Key tasks:

  • Induct students onto the programme and mentor them throughout their studies
  • Advise students on all matters concerning their studies including course structures, work programmes, assessment issues and available progression routes
  • Monitor student attendance and assignment submissions
  • Deal with students' personal timetables and keep track of individual progress
  • Liaise with student mentors and employers throughout the programme
  • Alert tutors to any potential problems with the programme and individual students and work with tutors to ensure the best possible service and support is given to students
  • Work with Admissions Advisers during the student induction process
  • Attend faculty meetings and take minutes

Personal qualities:

  • Outgoing, supportive and friendly personality with strong organisational skills
  • Effective communicator in a customer or student focussed environment
  • Excellent organiser with attention to detail
  • Excellent IT literacy with a desire to embrace new technology
  • Hands on approach and a willingness to undertake roles outside of the remit to ensure success of the programme

Prior experience:

  • A first degree
  • Experience of higher eduction is desirable but not essential

Other key information for prospective candidates:

  • Salary from 17,000 to 19,000 (depending on experience) plus benefits
  • Working hours 37.5
  • Central Leeds location
